Koingstein and Dresden Memories!!!

Monday was our day to sightsee. We voted and decided to go the Koingstein and then to Dresden for dinner. We were on the road by 9:30-9:45 and arrived at Koingstein two hours later!!!

Koingstein (koon-ish-stein) is a former castle/fortress  and it is big, beautiful and bold!!! This fortress never failed or succumbed to its enemy due to its location on a mountain and the Elba river and for the fact that the inhabitants of the fortress had all the necessary things to live supplied within the walls. This fortress was first mentioned in the 1200s in a letter!!! It's huge and I mean huge!!! I wish I knew the square feet or acreage to give you an idea of how vast this fortress was.  Here are the photos of visiting Koingstein:

The drive to Koingstein:

(Trees in Germany are tall and skinny and have very little branches and leaves down the trunk!!)

(If you look off to the right side of the picture -- what looks like mountain is actually Koingstein!!!)

(Another picture of Koingstein in the mountain)

(Exit elevator from the fortress along with a portion of the base foundation of the fortress)

Into Koingstein(

(View as soon as you get off elevator)

(Saddens upset to have to leave Koingstein -- didn't get to see all of it)

Dresden: not a lot of photos here cause it started to rain!!!

Time for dinner at the Pulver Turn: if you are ever in Dresden go there to eat!!!

Then it was time to head home for our flight this morning leaves at 6:30 am which in Ohio is 12:30. I'll land in Cincinnati around 5:30 pm. Not sure if I'll get to post this in Dresden or Chicago but know this-- we are headed home!!

Love ya all,
Deidre Faye:)
